Covering an area of approximately 795 square kilometers, the park was established in 1993 to protect a large tract of moist evergreen rainforest. Kibale is particularly famous for its high concentration of primates, including a significant population of chimpanzees, making it a prime destination for primate enthusiasts.
Wildlife Sightings
Kibale National Park is home to an impressive array of primates, with 13 primate species recorded. The park’s most famous residents are the chimpanzees, and it offers one of the best opportunities for chimpanzee tracking in East Africa. Other primates found in Kibale include red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and mangabey monkeys. The park is also home to a variety of bird species and other mammals, creating a diverse and rich ecosystem.
HOW TO GET THERE
By Road
Kibale National Park is accessible by road from Kampala, the capital of Uganda. The journey takes approximately 4-5 hours, and the road conditions are generally good. Visitors can use private vehicles or join guided tours to reach the park.
By Air
The nearest airstrip is Kasese Airstrip, and charter flights can be arranged from Entebbe International Airport. From Kasese, it's a road transfer to the park.
By Train
There is no direct rail connection to Kibale National Park. Travel by road or air is the more common and practical option.
